Also known as the birthday of the Church, Pentecost is the celebrated feast of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples. With this same Spirit, the Church is promised to prevail against all powers of Hell, and each member in the Church is renewed in the Spirit at Baptism and confirmed in the Spirit at Confirmation. It is with the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we cultivate the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and the strength to be a martyr comes from this confirmation in the Holy Spirit. There is much to say for the third Person of the Holy Trinity, the fiery love ever poured out from the Father and Son. The best response to the reception of God, the Holy Spirit, is humility and cultivation of His gifts. He empowers each person to realize His kingdom, giving each of us gifts to work with Him for the good of others.
